As we saw in our previous passage, harmful substances such as oil, inside a compressor, can reduce its efficiency and longevity (Read also: Remove harmful substances from compressed air). Similarly, another element that can damage our compressed air compressors is condensation, which is why it is of fundamental importance today to use so-called Dryers. Let’s see what it is.
A compressor by its function inevitably produces humidity, which, if not managed well, can damage some important components of the same, such as machines and pneumatic motors and valves. The advice is therefore to try to keep the compressed air dry and clean as much as possible by installing the correct dryer.
How to find the best dryer for our compressors? The choice of a dryer depends on several factors that strictly depend on the requirements and moisture tolerance capacity of our machines. Normally a manufacturing industry uses refrigeration air dryers, which can be cyclic and non-cyclic. Refrigerated dryers are suitable for systems that require dry air as they do not have a critical humidity point and can be either cyclic or non-cyclic.
The non-cyclic chiller differs from the first in its ability to always be in operation regardless of the incoming air load and for the use of a valve that redirects the refrigerant even in low load conditions. It is a very cost-effective as well as reliable dryer and is an excellent starting point for those on a budget. However, it should be noted that this type of refrigeration dryer can only be used for screw compressed air compressors while it is not recommended for piston compressors due to energy consumption.
The cyclic dryer, unlike the previous one, instead uses an inverter through which it is possible to activate or deactivate it according to the input compressed air flow. It is therefore a highly advantageous chiller in terms of energy efficiency albeit slightly more expensive. The pros of this type of dryer are energy savings, low-pressure drops, small footprint and low noise level (Read also: How to reduce the noise of a compressor)
